AXOLOTL AXOLOTL - how wonderous our world is!

An Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) is a neotonic salamander - how cool is that? Who doesn’t want to be neotonic??

Some reasons we (axolotls) are the most awesome species in the universe:

1. we  eat by suctioning our food - god how much time that would SAVE ME! I would never have to chew - and this means I can eat oysters alllllll day - suck suck sllurrrrrrrrrp
2. We have to power to regenerate limbs and brain parts! Ok how useful is this - I can now get in as many knife fights as I want without worry! And if half my brain falls of, it would grow back! We also accept limbs from other axolotls - so we don’t discriminate like picky humans.
3. We are from Mexico - all the coolest stuff in the world is from Mexico: Mexicans, guacamole, alebrije, cilantro, corn, chayote, tlayuda, queso oaxaqueno, oaxaca, hugs, playa de conejos, romanticos
4. Our species name includes ” mexicanum” - how cool is that? So I could say “soy una coneja mexicanum” “soy una loba mexicanum”
5. Our name, Axolotl, comes from the Aztec Nahuatl language  which translates to water dog! OMG my dream is to be a water dog! atl = water xolotl=dog
6. We can reach sexual maturity without actually having to go through puberty  - yahhh neoteny! Dear heavens how wonderful to skip that difficult phase in life!
7. in low temperatures, neoteny is suppressed - so we know that when we’re too cold we shouldn’t mature sexually. like duhhh? how smart is that?

My dream is to see a axolotl in real life. They are on the extinct list. When I visit DF next time, this is on my list of things to do.

I have found the Axolotl community - they have  very active forums for people who raise and diagnose sick Axolotls and they sell t-shirts!

Someone made an Axolotl stuffed animal!

One year for Halloween I will be an Axolotl.
